Spa day with treatment with lunch and afternoon tea

TripAdvisor rating 4.0/5

Sarah M Friends getaway - TripAdvisor review

This was our second visit which was unfortunately delayed due to ill health but the spa kindly kept rearranging the date until we were well enough to enjoy the day. Everyone was friendly. Some delay with bar staff to arrange a coffee but this was a relaxing day so wasn't a problem. The downside is on arriving at the hotel you have to go back outside to a different entrance. Once at the spa there is direct access into the hotel unless you are disabled. Then the only step free access is back around the outside of the building. (This should be looked at as the spa is not fully accessible) The staff were very welcoming and went through all the need to know info. The changing rooms are dated but clean. The lockers need a luggage padlock to secure. (They look broken but the lock has to be turned and pushed in to activate the hole for the padlock) The pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room are clean. The jacuzzi and enterance to the hotel is up steps but handrails are everywhere. Water was tested whilst we were there, staff constantly cleaning and monitoring. Robes and towels were OK. And you can use these in the bar area for drinks and food. We had a reasonable wrap and fries. And a late afternoon tea. The treatment rooms were on the 2nd floor and the lift was not working so a ground gloom double room was arranged in the hotel. This was all made so easy for us. We were escorted to the hotel, found a suitable table for lunch, and was collected from our table for our treatments. Our indian head massage, facial massage, neck, shoulder massage was absolutely bliss! The hotel room they used was so nice I would have happily stayed. All staff in both the hotel and spa were friendly approachable and happy to help. I've read the negative reviews and was concerned my second visit 6 years apart would not have been as good as before but it was. Its not mega luxury but this is reflected in the pricing. What it is is clean, friendly, unpretentious and relaxing.

Disappointing experience. Do not recommend.

I went to the Spa earlier this week with friends as a birthday treat and was really disappointed. When we arrived they told us they’d got the timings wrong with our massages - we all booked to have them the same time - 1:30pm, followed by afternoon tea at 3pm. They said one of us had to have the treatment at 2:30pm, and the other two of us at 3:30pm which meant for 2hours of our day we were split up - We don’t see each other very much so this was annoying. We got shown to the pool area and changing rooms which were disgusting and in need of a good clean. The dressing gowns they gave us had stains on and we had to ask to change one of them it was so bad. The floor around the pool area was also disgusting, and the pool water was cold. The hot tub, steam room and sauna were all working well but the steam room was a bit grotty. The whole place needs a big refurbishment to be honest! It doesn’t look as nice as photos advertised on their website. The afternoon tea was very basic - nothing special - Sandwiches and cakes were not nice at all, but the tea and scones were okay. We were told to wait in a “relaxation room” until they were ready to give us massages - they failed to tell us they were running 20min late - we thought they’d forgotten about us in there - the room was embarrassing - very small and cramped, with just a plastic chair and a black couch that had mysterious stains all over it. No one had thought to top up the water in there for us and there were only 2 paper cups left out. Luckily the facials and massages were very nice and relaxing - although the oil used for scalp massage smelt bad and had to wash our hair after to get the smell off!! Overall a really disappointing visit!! Wouldn’t recommend anyone to go there and we certainly won’t be visiting again. So many other better spas out there!!

Parking charges were a suprise!

It's a shame I've given this score as the staff were very courteous and professional and the room was lovely, I was suprised to be charged £10 for parking my car up over night for a total of 10 hours. I could understand if this hotel was near an airport or a train station, but its at thw entrance to a motor racing circuit and its highly unlikely anyone would be taking advantage of the car park. Regardless of which channels I booked my room via why are the hotel charging for parking at all? And if its only for those who don't book direct, is it to make up for any discount that external booking sights give their customers.

Reception Staff were very professional on arrival. The room itself was definitely showing signs of age with threadbare carpet just inside the door and attention to detail when preparing the room was missed - there was black mould in in one corner in the bathroom. Despite the letter I received on arrival indicating the room would be cleaned every day, this was not the case. The showers on the first morning were cold and when questioning Reception Staff, all I got was" Sorry - maintenance staff are on it" - bit late then

Fabulous Stay.

I celebrated my belated birthday and always bring a new friend to this hotel. This was my best visit, the room and welcome pack were amazing. All the staff especially reception were friendly, helpful and accommodating. My request were met. Dinning was good too, with lovely service and staff. I was so satisfied I cannot rate less than a ten, this visit. I will be back again soon, just to enjoy a chilled relaxing experience.
